Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) are the main engine behind most discrete control systems in many industries. This class aims to introduce the principles of operations, maintenance techniques, basic troubleshooting techniques and thorough understanding of overall machine design concepts using PLCs. Participants will have hands-on experience with PLC and carry out demo projects on live PLCs as well as simulators. The class training will be complemented by class workshops, discussion on industry best practices and ISA videos on PLCs. Students will be issued a certificate at the end of the training.Among others, you will cover:Personnel involved in design, installation, operation & maintenance of Monitoring, Automation and control systemsAmong others, you will cover:Using Siemens PLCsIntroduction to PLC hardwareØ Power supply unitØ Central processing unitØ Modules: Input and output modules & Special modules and peripheral deviceo MemoryPLC operation modes and cycleØ I/O Addressing technique: Addressing and Device Number SystemsPLC Setup and configurationIntroduction to PLC programming languagesØ LAD, STL & FBD and SFC; Introduction to IEC 1131 standardCreating and configuring a projectProgramming structure and basic instructionsUse of Timers & Counters & Special Functions and BlocksConnecting PLC with field devicesUploading and downloadingDiagnosing faults using software and hardware (machine) diagramsHand-on practical exercises & simulationsOBJECTIVESAt the end of the course, participants will be able to:Identify and explain the advantages of a programmable logic control over the conventional controls;Operate programmable logic controller;Identify and describe the functions of the system components of a programmable logic control;Make a simple program in ladder diagram and statement list programming;Translate a ladder diagram program into electrical and logic circuits equivalent;Solve problem exercises and simulate controlsObserve safe practices in dealing with PLC controls systems.
